How to Get to Motorland Mikawa or YZ Circuit East Without a Car (2026)

By Published Oct 21, 2026 Updated Oct 21, 2026 6 min read

The Rundown

  • Motorland Mikawa is in Tsukude, Shinshiro, Aichi. From Shinshiro Station it costs ¥600 one way by public transport: ¥400 on the S-Bus Tsukude Line to Tsukude Takasato, then ¥200 on the Tsukude Ashigaru demand bus, which sets you down anywhere in the Tsukude district.
  • The demand bus runs Monday to Saturday, 06:30 to 18:30, and not on Sundays, public holidays or 29 December to 3 January. Booking is by phone on 0536-38-1481, Monday to Saturday 08:30 to 17:00.
  • The bus that gets you to Tsukude before Mikawa's 10:00 drift hour leaves Shinshiro Station at 07:27 and reaches Tsukude Takasato at 08:06. The Toyotetsu highway bus from Nagoya (Fujigaoka, ¥1,000) only reaches Shinshiro at 10:36.
  • YZ Circuit East is in Mizunami, Gifu, not Aichi. No bus serves its hamlet, Okoshi: Mizunami's Hiyoshi community bus has no stop of that name and runs on weekdays only, as of 21 October 2026.
  • Mizunami's tourist demand taxi (¥500, weekdays only) drops visitors at three fixed points, none of them the circuit. A taxi fare from JR Mizunami Station to YZ is not officially stated (checked 21 October 2026).

Motorland Mikawa (Aichi) can be reached without a car from Monday to Saturday: a ¥400 bus from Shinshiro Station to Tsukude Takasato, then a ¥200 booked demand bus to the gate, ¥600 in all. YZ Circuit East (Gifu) has no public transport to its gate on any day, so the last leg from JR Mizunami Station is a car. Every time and fare below was checked on the official pages on 21 October 2026.

Our Motorland Mikawa guide and YZ Circuit East guide cover fees, slots and booking. This page answers one question only: how a visitor with no car gets from Nagoya or Toyohashi to the gate, and back.

Where are the two circuits, exactly?

They are often lumped together as “Nagoya tracks”. They are in different prefectures and in opposite directions from the city.

CircuitAddress (official)Direction from NagoyaWhat the official site says about access
Motorland Mikawa60-6 Naganoyama, Iwanami, Tsukude, Shinshiro, AichiEast, in the hills above ShinshiroExpressway junctions only: about 35 min from Shinshiro IC on the Shin-Tomei
YZ Circuit East6851-1 Okoshi, Hiyoshi-cho, Mizunami, GifuNorth-east, off the JR Chuo LineNo written directions, only a map image

Neither circuit mentions trains or buses. So both plans are built from city and bus-company timetables.

How do you reach Motorland Mikawa by bus?

The chain has three links: get to Shinshiro, ride the S-Bus Tsukude Line up the hill, then book the Tsukude Ashigaru demand bus for the last stretch. Shinshiro City’s page for that demand bus says anyone can use it if they book ahead, and that inside the Tsukude district it picks up and drops off anywhere, not only at stops. Mikawa’s drift running happens only in the 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00 hours, so the morning bus matters.

The JR times come from the connection table printed on Toyotetsu’s own Tsukude Line timetable. The 07:27 and 18:22 buses run every day. IC cards are accepted on the Tsukude Line.

From Nagoya there is also a direct bus. Toyotetsu’s highway bus leaves Fujigaoka Station in Nagoya at 09:15 and reaches Kamehime-dori, by Shinshiro Station, at 10:36, for ¥1,000 one way or ¥2,000 return. Three run daily, weekends included. That only gets you onto the 12:07 Tsukude bus, arriving Takasato at 12:43, which leaves the 14:00 drift hour. The timetable revised on 1 October 2026 moved the last bus back to 16:08 from Kamehime-dori, and the 15:37 bus off the hill reaches Shinshiro at 16:12. You miss it by minutes, so plan to return by JR via Toyohashi.

Sunday breaks the chain

The demand bus does not run on Sundays, public holidays, substitute holidays or 29 December to 3 January, and its booking line (0536-38-1481) only answers Monday to Saturday, 08:30 to 17:00. No official page states a taxi fare for Tsukude. Pick a Saturday or a weekday.

Can you get to YZ Circuit East without a car?

You can get close, then you stop. JR Mizunami Station is about 55 minutes from Nagoya on the Chuo Line, according to Mizunami City, and on Saturdays and holidays the first train from Nagoya bound for Mizunami leaves at 05:58. YZ opens its gate at 08:00 and runs from 09:00, with the drift-friendly mixed sessions starting at 10:00 (2G).

After the station, every public option fails for a different reason.

OptionWhat the official page saysWhy it does not reach YZ
Hiyoshi community bus¥100 to ¥400. No service on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays or 30 Dec to 3 JanNo stop called Okoshi on its timetable, and it leaves Mizunami Ekimae for Hiyoshi only at 15:35 and 16:00
Ikocar tourist demand taxi¥500 a ride, weekdays only, booked by phone from a week before to 17:00 the day before. First departure from Mizunami Station 10:50Visitors are dropped only at Hosokute-juku, Okute-juku or the Shimin Koen park
Taxi from Mizunami StationNo fare or operator listed by the city or the circuitTBC: not officially stated (checked 21 Oct 2026)

That is primary-source confirmation, not a gap in our research: the city’s own timetable lists every stop on the line, and the hamlet in YZ’s address is not one of them. Rail fares on both routes sit inside JR Central’s interactive search rather than on a published table, so we leave them as TBC instead of guessing.

Where does the plan actually break?

Trains are the easy part. The stuck step is the last few kilometres. At Mikawa it is a Japanese phone call to book a demand bus that does not run on Sundays. At YZ there is no public leg at all, and the first useful train lands you at Mizunami with nothing scheduled to the gate before the 10:00 session.

If the station-to-gate leg is where your trip stops

Getting to Shinshiro or Mizunami by train is simple. Getting from there to a circuit with no bus, on the day you want, in time for the drift hours, is the leg we take on, together with the Japanese booking for the session itself. Send us your dates: Drift at Mikawa or YZ with us, with the ride from Nagoya and the Japanese booking handled.

Which day and base should you choose?

For Mikawa, choose a Saturday and sleep in Toyohashi or Shinshiro. That way the 06:21 train and 07:27 bus are a normal morning, and the 18:22 last bus gives you hours of margin after running ends. Coming from Nagoya the same morning only works for the 14:00 hour.

For YZ, the base is Nagoya or Mizunami, but the deciding question is who drives the last leg. Settle that first.

Before you set off

  • Stop names saved in Japanese: 新城駅口 (Shinshiro Ekiguchi), 作手高里 (Tsukude Takasato), 瑞浪駅前 (Mizunami Ekimae)
  • Circuit addresses in Japanese: 愛知県新城市作手岩波字長ノ山60-6 and 岐阜県瑞浪市日吉町大越6851-1
  • The demand bus booked for a Saturday or weekday, with the circuit as your drop-off
  • Cash in yen for buses and the circuit desk
  • Your session dates checked against the Drift Japan Event & Track Calendar

If neither works for your trip, our guide to drifting in Tokai compares every venue near Nagoya, and the track directory lists access notes for each circuit in Japan.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Motorland Mikawa without a car?

Take the JR Iida Line to Shinshiro Station (the 06:21 from Toyohashi arrives 06:58), then the S-Bus Tsukude Line from Shinshiro Ekiguchi at 07:27 to Tsukude Takasato at 08:06 for ¥400. From there, the Tsukude Ashigaru demand bus (¥200, book on 0536-38-1481) can drop you anywhere in the Tsukude district, which is where Motorland Mikawa in Shinshiro, Aichi sits. That puts you at the circuit before its first drift hour at 10:00. The demand bus runs Monday to Saturday only. Checked on the official pages on 21 October 2026.

Can I get to Motorland Mikawa on a Sunday by public transport?

Not all the way, as of 21 October 2026. The S-Bus Tsukude Line from Shinshiro Station to Tsukude Takasato runs every day, including the 07:27 departure, but the Tsukude Ashigaru demand bus that covers the last leg to Motorland Mikawa (Aichi) does not run on Sundays, public holidays, substitute holidays or 29 December to 3 January. No official taxi fare for Tsukude is published, so a Sunday visit without a car has no confirmed last leg.

Is there a bus to YZ Circuit East?

No. As of 21 October 2026, no scheduled bus stops at YZ Circuit East, at 6851-1 Okoshi, Hiyoshi-cho, Mizunami, Gifu. Mizunami City's Hiyoshi community bus (¥100 to ¥400) has no stop called Okoshi, runs on weekdays only, and leaves Mizunami Ekimae for Hiyoshi only at 15:35 and 16:00. The city's tourist demand taxi costs ¥500 a ride on weekdays but only drops visitors at three fixed points, none of them the circuit. JR Mizunami Station is about 55 minutes from Nagoya on the Chuo Line, per Mizunami City.

How much does it cost to reach Motorland Mikawa from Nagoya by bus?

¥1,600 one way, as of 21 October 2026: ¥1,000 on the Toyotetsu highway bus from Fujigaoka Station in Nagoya to Shinshiro, ¥400 on the S-Bus Tsukude Line to Tsukude Takasato, and ¥200 on the Tsukude Ashigaru demand bus to Motorland Mikawa in Shinshiro, Aichi. The catch is timing: the morning highway bus leaves Fujigaoka at 09:15 and reaches Shinshiro at 10:36, so you can only make the 14:00 drift hour, and the last bus back to Nagoya leaves Shinshiro at 16:08.
