What iconic JDM cars actually cost in Japan
On 5 October 2026 we counted every priced listing for the Supra, Skyline GT-R, RX-7, Lancer Evolution, Impreza STI and NSX on Goo-net, Japan’s largest used-car marketplace: 496 cars with a price on them. The medians: a JZA80 Supra ¥8,880,000 ($55,500), an R34 GT-R ¥30,800,000 ($192,500), an FD3S RX-7 ¥6,630,000 ($41,438). These are the prices Japanese buyers see at dealers, not export quotes, with dollars at ¥160 to $1. Next to each one: what it costs landed in your country, roughly, and what the same model actually sold for at US auctions in the last 12 months.

Median and middle half are the dealers’ asking body prices on Goo-net (no fees, no registration), listings with no price excluded. The landed band adds a deliberately wide freight and Japan-side cost band and the destination’s duty and tax rules from our import guides; it leaves out our fee, customs broker, compliance and registration. The 25-year column counts priced cars by model year; the rule itself runs from the month of manufacture, so a 2001 car qualifies only once its build month has passed. US auction figures are Bring a Trailer results: sold cars only, located in the US, ended between 2025-10-05 and 2026-10-05, hammer price before the 5% buyer fee. Rows marked thin have fewer than 5 priced cars.
How to read these numbers
読み方- The median is a dealer’s asking price, not a bargain. It is what a Japanese buyer sees on the windscreen, with the dealer’s margin, preparation and often a new shaken inside it. Exporters who buy at auction pay under it, and the car you get is a different gamble.
- The rarest cars hide their prices. 103 of the listings we read showed no price at all. They are left out, so for the cars where that happens most the real middle of the market is higher than the table.
- Japan is no longer automatically cheaper. Compare the landed band with the US auction column. For some chassis the gap is still wide; for others an import costs about what the same model fetches at home. That is the argument in the comments under every “JDM prices” video, settled with counts instead of anecdotes in is importing from Japan still worth it?
- Year matters twice. The years-on-sale column shows what is actually listed, and the 25-year column counts how many of those priced cars are old enough by model year for a US buyer today; the build month on the plate is what decides it.

How we count
方法Every page of Goo-net’s listings for each model is read on the census day, and every card with a body price goes into the count; cards that say “ask” are tallied separately. The Supra, RX-7, Impreza and NSX come from Goo-net’s own type-code listings (JZA80, FD3S, GC8 with STI in the title, GDB, NA1 and NA2). The Skyline and the Lancer Evolution are read in full and split by the listing title, then by year: a GT-R is a Skyline whose title starts with GT-R, so GT-R-look conversions stay out; an Evo goes by the generation in its title. The raw prices are archived with each census so every figure can be traced. Questions about a number: tell us.

Why do so many of these cars say “ask” instead of a price?
Japanese dealers often hold back the price on their rarest stock. On 5 October 2026, 103 of the 599 listings we read for these models showed no price (17%), and they are not in any median on this page. The R34 GT-R and the best Supras are where it happens most, so the true middle of the market for those cars is higher than the priced median suggests.
Is it cheaper to import one of these from Japan than to buy at home?
For some models, by a wide margin; for others, not any more. The table compares the Japan median plus a deliberately wide landed band with what the same model actually sold for at US auctions in the last 12 months. Our article on whether importing is still worth it walks through each model, and the answer changes with the chassis, not the country.
