Drift Trip to Japan in March 2027: What Opens, What Waits

The Rundown

  • Ebisu Circuit (Fukushima) charges its winter tariff of ¥5,500 for a full drift day or ¥3,500 for a half day, insurance included, until 31 March. From 1 April the normal Course 4 price is ¥8,500 a day, so March is the last cheap month.
  • Ebisu posts each month's driving calendar around the 23rd of the month before, so the March 2027 calendar should appear around 23 February 2027.
  • Bihoku Highland Circuit (Okayama) goes back to full free-run prices after February: A course ¥5,000 and B course ¥6,500, plus ¥500 entry. Course hire is booked by phone and FAX, and next year's hire bookings open from around October.
  • Hokkaido's snow season is over by March. Shin-Chitose Motorland (Hokkaido) switches to its asphalt summer season from March to November, and Tokachi Speedway (Hokkaido) runs its winter course only from the third Monday of January to about 20 February.
  • No D1 or Formula Drift Japan round is confirmed for March 2027. In 2026 the national season started in April: D1 Lights on 4-5 April at Nikko, D1GP Rd.Zero on 19 April at Fuji and FDJ Rd.1 on 25-26 April at Fuji.

March 2027 is the last cheap month and the month the season wakes up. Ebisu Circuit (Fukushima) keeps its ¥5,500 winter drift day until 31 March, Bihoku Highland Circuit (Okayama) runs free-run at ¥5,000, and Okuibuki Motor Park (Shiga) opens its season booking on 1 March while staying closed until early April. No D1 or Formula Drift Japan round is set for March, and every date and price here was checked on the official pages on 22 October 2026.

Our February planner covers the Osaka show and real snow. March has no big show and no snow, but it has the best value on Honshu before prices rise. Fixed dates go on our event calendar as each circuit publishes them.

Which circuits are open in March 2027, and what do they cost?

Here is where each venue stood on 22 October 2026.

Ebisu is the headline. Its winter tariff runs from 1 December to 31 March. On 1 April the same drift area (Course 4) goes to ¥8,500 a day or ¥5,000 a half day, and Course 5, which adds the West course, costs ¥10,000. If your dates can move, the last two weeks of March give you spring daylight at the winter price. The price page also says there are no refunds for weather or a broken car. Drivers get in free, but a friend who only watches pays ¥1,700. More detail is in our Ebisu guide.

Bihoku is the opposite. Its January and February discount ends, so in March the A course is back to ¥5,000 instead of ¥4,000, and the B course to ¥6,500 instead of ¥5,500.

How busy is Meihan in March?

Meihan Sportsland (Nara) does not sell open drift days the way Ebisu does. Each drift day belongs to an organiser, a club or shop that has hired a course. The March 2027 sheet is not out, so use March 2026 as your guide.

The March 2026 sheet marked drift (“do” on the sheet) on 11 days: 8, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 28 March. Four of those fell at a weekend: Sunday 8, Saturday 21, Sunday 22 and Saturday 28. Thursday is the regular closing day. We checked the year by the weekdays on the sheet, since the page does not print it. Our Kansai guide explains how organiser days there work.

Is Okuibuki open in March, and when can you book it?

Okuibuki Motor Park (Shiga) is part of a ski resort, Gransnow Okuibuki. In winter it is snow, so the drift areas open from early April to late November only. March is closed for driving, but March matters, because the whole season goes on sale in one go.

1 March, midnight Japan time

When we last read the official Motor Park page, on 17 October 2026, web booking for the season opened at 00:00 JST on 1 March each year. The resort site was offline when we went back on 22 October 2026, so look again in February. Midnight in Japan is 15:00 the day before in London and 10:00 the day before in New York. Our Okuibuki guide has the fees and cancellation rules.

Can you still drift on snow in March?

Not on a planned snow course. Hokkaido’s snow venues close the season before March.

Hokkaido venueSnow seasonMarch
Shin-Chitose Motorland (Hokkaido)Winter season December to February, snow and iceSummer season starts, normal asphalt
Tokachi Speedway (Hokkaido)Winter course from the third Monday of January to about 20 FebruaryWinter course closed

So March in Hokkaido is a tarmac trip, and early in the summer season. If sliding on snow is the point, our Hokkaido guide covers the February options.

Is there a D1 or Formula Drift Japan round in March 2027?

Not a confirmed one. As of 22 October 2026, neither D1 nor Formula Drift Japan had published a 2027 calendar. The 2026 pattern points to April for the national openers:

Series2026 first roundVenue
D1 Lights4–5 April 2026Nikko Circuit (Tochigi)
D1 Grand PrixRd.Zero, 19 April 2026Fuji
Formula Drift JapanRd.1, 25–26 April 2026Fuji International Speedway (Shizuoka)

If a March 2027 round appears, it will be on the series pages first. Until then, treat any March date on a third-party site as a guess.

What has to be booked in Japanese, and when?

Bihoku is where planning early pays off. The official price page says course hire is booked by telephone and FAX. The deadline is three days ahead on a weekday and one week ahead at weekends for the A course, and one week for the B course. It also says next year’s hire bookings open from around October. That means March 2027 dates can be asked for now, but only by a call or a FAX in Japanese, during Japanese office hours.

The phone and FAX step

Bihoku's phone-and-FAX hire booking, and lining it up with Ebisu's March calendar when it lands in late February, are the steps that stall most spring trips from abroad. We take that part on. Send us your March dates and get your drift days in Japan lined up.

March 2027 deadlines

  • From around October 2026: Bihoku takes hire bookings for 2027
  • Around 23 February 2027: Ebisu posts its March driving calendar
  • 1 March 2027, 00:00 JST: Okuibuki season web booking (confirm in February)
  • 31 March 2027: last day of Ebisu's ¥5,500 winter tariff
  • Early April 2027: Okuibuki areas open; national series openers expected (2026 pattern)

March is a quiet month with clear deadlines. Lock the circuit first, then let the late-February calendars set the exact days.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drift in Japan in March 2027?

Yes. Ebisu Circuit (Fukushima) runs drift days on its winter tariff of ¥5,500 for a full day or ¥3,500 for a half day, insurance included, until 31 March, and posts its March calendar around 23 February. Bihoku Highland Circuit (Okayama) runs free-run at its normal price of ¥5,000 on the A course and ¥6,500 on the B course, plus ¥500 entry. Meihan Sportsland (Nara) runs drift on organiser days; its March 2026 sheet marked drift on 11 days. Exact March 2027 running days were not published at any of these circuits as of 22 October 2026.

Is there a D1 Grand Prix or Formula Drift Japan round in March 2027?

None is confirmed. As of 22 October 2026, neither the D1 official website nor the Formula Drift Japan official site had published a 2027 calendar. In 2026 no national round ran in March: D1 Lights opened on 4-5 April at Nikko Circuit (Tochigi), the D1 Grand Prix Rd.Zero ran on 19 April at Fuji, and Formula Drift Japan Rd.1 ran on 25-26 April at Fuji International Speedway (Shizuoka).

Can I still drift on snow in Hokkaido in March?

Not on the planned snow courses. Shin-Chitose Motorland (Hokkaido) runs its snow and ice winter season from December to February and its asphalt summer season from March to November, so a March visit there is on tarmac. Tokachi Speedway (Hokkaido) opens its winter ice course only from the third Monday of January to about 20 February. If snow drifting is the goal, book February instead. Seasons as stated on the official pages on 22 October 2026.

When does Okuibuki Motor Park open for the 2027 season?

Okuibuki Motor Park (Shiga) opens its areas from early April to late November, because the site is a ski resort in winter, so it is closed in March. Its web booking for the whole season opens once a year at 00:00 Japan time on 1 March, as stated on the official page when we last read it on 17 October 2026. The 2027 booking opening had not been separately announced as of 22 October 2026.

How much does a drift day at Ebisu cost in March 2027?

Ebisu Circuit (Fukushima) lists a winter tariff from 1 December to 31 March of ¥5,500 for a full drift day and ¥3,500 for a half day, per driver, insurance included, with no refunds for weather. From 1 April the normal price for Course 4 is ¥8,500 a day or ¥5,000 a half day. Drivers enter free; a non-driving adult pays ¥1,700 admission. Prices as of 22 October 2026; 2027 prices are not separately announced.
