The Rundown

  • Koudai Sobagiri (#31) won Formula Drift Japan 2026 Rd.6 at Okayama International Circuit (Okayama) on Sunday 4 October 2026, beating Jake Jones (#947) in the final; Naoki Nakamura (#999) was classified third.
  • Sobagiri also topped Saturday's qualifying with 93 points, so he took the maximum 107 points for the round (7 for qualifying plus 100 for the win), what the series called a perfect win.
  • The official FDJ account named Sobagiri the 2026 series champion. By our sum of the official standings after Rd.5 and the provisional Rd.6 sheet he finishes on 403, five points ahead of Kazumi Takahashi on 398.
  • Takahashi arrived with a 34-point lead, lost to Sobagiri in the semi-final and was classified fourth on 68 points. Masuyama, RYUMA and Naoki Nakamura end level on 316 on our arithmetic.
  • Every result and point here was read off formulad.jp and the official FDJ X account on 4 October 2026; the Rd.6 sheet is still marked provisional and the standings page had not added Rd.6.

Koudai Sobagiri (蕎麦切広大, #31) won Formula Drift Japan 2026 Round 6 at Okayama International Circuit (Okayama) on Sunday 4 October 2026, beating Jake Jones (#947) in the final, and the official FDJ account named him the 2026 series champion the same afternoon. He topped qualifying too, so he took the maximum 107 points. We checked the official pages on 4 October 2026: the result sheet is marked provisional and the standings page still stops at Round 5, but adding Round 6 to it puts Sobagiri on 403, five points clear of Kazumi Takahashi (高橋和己, #36).

Who won the Okayama finale, and how?

Okayama International is a road circuit in the hills of Mimasaka, about 80 minutes by bus and taxi from Okayama Station; our Okayama International guide covers the place. The top class ran on Saturday and Sunday, after FDJ2 had used Friday and Saturday for its own finale.

Saturday was tansō (単走), solo judged runs, two per driver, ranked on the better score. Sobagiri set the benchmark with 93, Naoki Nakamura (中村直樹, #999) and Wataru Masuyama (益山航, #530) both scored 92, and Takahashi was fourth on 91 with the best backup run of the day, a 90. The Top 32 cut fell at 72, where four drivers tied: Mr. Annin (杏仁さん, #20) took the last bracket place on the strength of a 70 second run, and Yukio Matsui (#8), Mike Nakamura (#66) and Echo Gao (#919) went home with 1 point each.

Sunday was tsuisō (追走), the tandem chase battles that decide the round: two runs per pairing, lead and chase swapped. The arithmetic before the day was simple. Takahashi led Sobagiri by 34 points after Round 5, and 107 was the most anyone could add. Sobagiri’s qualifying win had already cut the gap by three. Then the two met in the semi-final, and Sobagiri won it.

In the other half, Jake Jones, sixth in qualifying, beat Luca Merli (#101), Masanori Kohashi (小橋正典, #4), RYUMA (#131) and Naoki Nakamura to reach the final, worth 80 battle points plus 4 for qualifying. Sobagiri beat him there. The official sheet gives outcomes, not the judges’ scores, so we will not invent them. The series’ own X account noted that the crowd stayed to the end in the rain.

Both semi-final losers scored 64 battle points; Nakamura’s 6 qualifying points against Takahashi’s 4 decided third. The Top 16 rematch of Fausto and Soshiro Nakamura repeated their Okuibuki meeting, as the series pointed out on X. Third-qualifier Masuyama lost to RYUMA in the Top 16 for 37 points, and championship sixth Connor Xia (#18) is listed without a classified result.

Final championship standings: how close was it?

As of 4 October 2026 the official standings page on formulad.jp still carries Rounds 1–5 with the Round 6 column blank. The table adds each driver’s provisional Round 6 points from the official result sheet; the title is confirmed by the series on X, but the totals are our arithmetic until formulad.jp updates the page.

DriverOfficial total after Rd.5Rd.6 provisional (qualifying + battles)Final, our sum
Koudai Sobagiri (#31)2967 + 100 = 107403
Kazumi Takahashi (#36)3304 + 64 = 68398
Wataru Masuyama (#530)2795 + 32 = 37316
RYUMA (#131)2653 + 48 = 51316
Naoki Nakamura (#999)2466 + 64 = 70316

Kiyofumi Hamada (#9)1934 + 48 = 52245
Jake Jones (#947)1564 + 80 = 84240

How the series orders the three drivers level on 316 is not stated on the standings page, so we leave third overall as TBC. Takahashi won Rounds 4 and 5 back to back; Sobagiri won Round 3 at Ebisu and now the finale. Our Round 5 report has the run-in, and the FDJ, FDJ2 and FDJ3 ladder is explained in the Formula Drift Japan guide.

What the drivers said

Sobagiri, 34 points down on arrival, posted this on the Friday before the weekend began:

Where can you watch the replay?

Sunday 4 October, from the Top 16 to the final, including the Sobagiri–Takahashi semi-final.

Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday morning’s Top 32 are separate uploads on the same channel.

What can you still watch in 2026?

The top class is finished until 2027, and FDJ2’s own finale on 2–3 October is not covered in this report; its season so far is in our FDJ2 Round 5 report. The next round under the Formula Drift Japan banner is FDJ3 Rd.5 at Fuji Speedway Drift Park (Shizuoka) on Sunday 18 October 2026, a one-day event for the entry-level class. Its ticket line still read Soon on formulad.jp when we checked. At FDJ3 Rd.1 on the same site the fees stacked: Fuji Speedway’s ¥1,200 adult admission, then ¥2,000 in cash at the course entrance, parking free. Our Fuji Speedway Drift Park guide covers where the course sits inside the speedway.

The hard part is the Sunday-morning start from Tokyo

Fuji Speedway sits at the foot of the mountain with no train station of its own, and a one-day round means being at the course entrance, with cash ready, before the first runs. That early leg is what trips up most visitors. We take it on. Watch FDJ3 at Fuji with us — the early run out of Tokyo, the gate fees sorted and a paddock plan.

The rest of the month, including D1GP at Autopolis on 24–25 October, is in our October 2026 trip planner, and every date above sits on the event calendar.
