How to Get to Minami Chiba Circuit Without a Car (2026)
The Rundown
- Minami Chiba Circuit is at 301 Kongochi, Ichihara, Chiba. Its own access page says the track is in the hills for noise reasons and that coming by train is very difficult, as of 27 October 2026.
- The nearest stations are on the JR Sotobo Line, not the Kominato Railway: Toke is 5.2 km away in a straight line (about 7.7 km by road) and Honno 5.4 km (about 6.4 km by road). The closest Kominato station is about 11 km away.
- On Saturdays and holidays, the 05:59 Sobu rapid from Tokyo reaches Chiba at 06:37; the 06:50 Sotobo local then arrives at Toke at 07:10 and Honno at 07:20.
- No bus stops near the gate. The closest stops (Ojiicho-minami and Asumigaoka-minami) are about 3.5 km away, roughly a 42-minute walk, according to NAVITIME.
- A Toke Station to circuit taxi is about ¥3,500 to ¥4,000 each way on the Chiba district meter (¥500 for the first 1.06 km, then ¥100 per 221 m). This is our estimate; no fixed fare is published.

Minami Chiba Circuit without a car
You can reach Minami Chiba Circuit (Chiba) without a car by taking JR to Toke Station on the Sotobo Line, about 70 minutes from Tokyo on a Saturday morning, then a taxi of roughly 7.7 km to the gate. No bus stops anywhere near the circuit, and the taxi works out at about ¥3,500 to ¥4,000 each way on the meter by our estimate. Every time and fare here was checked on the official pages on 27 Oct 2026.
Fees, the beginner Drift Experience EX and booking are in our Minami Chiba Circuit guide. That guide stops at “public transport is not practical”. This page goes further and shows you the route that does work, and the one step where it breaks.
Where is Minami Chiba Circuit, and what does it say about trains?
The address is 301 Kongochi, Ichihara, Chiba 290-0162 (千葉県市原市金剛地301). The circuit’s own access page is short and honest. It says the track sits in the hills because of noise, that coming by train or other public transport is very difficult, and that it recommends a car or a motorbike. It gives a phone number (080-5034-5442) and a map, and nothing else.
Ichihara makes most people think of the Kominato Railway, the little line that runs through the city. That is the wrong line here. Kongochi is in the far east of Ichihara, right on the border with Chiba City’s Midori ward. The nearest stations are on the JR Sotobo Line (外房線, the line down Chiba’s Pacific side):
| Station | Line | Straight line to gate | By road | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toke (土気) | JR Sotobo | 5.2 km | about 7.7 km | Larger station in Chiba City; Prefectural Route 132 runs from here towards Kongochi |
| Honno (本納) | JR Sotobo | 5.4 km | about 6.4 km | Shorter ride, smaller station; taxi waiting at the rank TBC |
| Nagata (永田) | JR Sotobo | 5.9 km | about 10.9 km | No advantage |
| Kazusa-Mitsumata (上総三又) | Kominato Railway | 11.3 km | not useful | Closest Kominato station |
Road distances are our own routing estimates. The circuit does not publish any of these.
Which train from Tokyo gets you there in the morning?
These are the two useful Saturday and holiday chains, from JR East’s own timetables. Both change at Chiba from the Sobu rapid to a Sotobo local.
| Leg | Chain A | Chain B | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sobu rapid, Tokyo → Chiba | 05:42 → 06:20 | 05:59 → 06:37 | TBC: not officially stated (checked 27 Oct 2026) |
| Sotobo local, Chiba → Toke | 06:28 → 06:49 | 06:50 → 07:10 | TBC |
| Same train, on to Honno | 07:00 | 07:20 | TBC |
| Taxi, station → circuit | +15 to 20 min | +15 to 20 min | about ¥3,000 (Honno) to ¥4,000 (Toke), our estimate |
After that, locals leave Chiba for Toke roughly every 15 to 25 minutes through the morning. Weekday times differ, so check the weekday page on JR East if you go Monday to Friday.
The taxi figure is arithmetic, not a quote. Both Toke and Ichihara are in the Chiba taxi fare district. Since 16 March 2026 a standard taxi there charges up to ¥500 for the first 1.06 km, then ¥100 for every 221 m. Over 7.7 km from Toke that is about ¥3,500 on distance alone, more if the car sits at lights or waits for you.
Check your slot against the first train
The circuit asks Drift Experience EX guests to arrive 30 minutes before their booked time. Chain A puts you at the gate around 07:05 to 07:10 at best, and chain B around 07:25 to 07:30. So a slot before about 07:40 cannot be made by train, and anything before 08:00 leaves no margin for a missing taxi. The circuit does not publish its EX slot times on the open page; you see them when you book.
Is there a bus to Minami Chiba Circuit?
No. NAVITIME’s page for the circuit says there is no station nearby and lists three bus stops, none of them close:
| Bus stop | Distance to gate | Walk |
|---|---|---|
| Ojiicho-minami (大椎町南) | about 3.5 km | about 42 min |
| Asumigaoka-minami (あすみが丘南) | about 3.5 km | about 43 min |
| Soyokaze-dori-minami (そよかぜ通り南) | about 3.9 km | about 48 min |
These are suburban stops in the Asumigaoka housing area south of Toke Station. Getting off and walking 40-plus minutes on narrow country roads, through the hills, to a circuit is not a plan. Treat the bus as non-existent for this trip.
How do you cover the last 7 km?
By taxi, both ways. The morning is the easy half: you arrive at a JR station and look for a car at the rank. Whether one is waiting at Toke or Honno at 07:10 on a Saturday is not something any official page states, so allow a few minutes.
The way back is the stuck step. When your session ends, you are at a circuit in the hills with no rank, no bus and no station in walking distance. You need a taxi to drive out to 301 Kongochi and collect you. That means phoning a local taxi company, in Japanese, and explaining where the circuit is. The circuit names no taxi company on its pages.
If the ride out of the hills is where your plan breaks
The JR leg to Toke is simple. The taxi you have to call to the gate in Japanese, twice in one day, is the part we take on. Send us your dates: Drift at Minami Chiba with us, we arrange the transport to the gate and back.
Can you get back to Tokyo the same evening?
Yes, easily, once you reach the station. On Saturdays and holidays, trains leave Toke for Chiba several times an hour until 23:23. Through trains to Tokyo run via the Keiyo Line, and the last one leaves Toke at 21:41; after that, change at Chiba. The train is never the problem. The 7 km between the gate and the station is.
Before you set off
- The circuit's address saved in Japanese: 千葉県市原市金剛地301 (phone 080-5034-5442)
- The station name in Japanese: 土気駅 (Toke Station), or 本納駅 (Honno) as the backup
- Cash in yen for two taxi rides, about ¥7,000 to ¥8,000 in total from Toke by our estimate
- A plan for the ride back from the gate, made before you leave Tokyo
- Your booked time minus 30 minutes, checked against the 06:49 and 07:10 arrivals at Toke
