Mobara Twin Circuit without a car
Mobara Twin Circuit (Chiba) is reached without a car by JR to Mobara Station on the Sotobo Line, then a taxi of about 15 to 20 minutes or a Kominato bus to the Daita-zeki stop and a 3-minute walk. On Saturdays the direct Wakashio 1 takes 57 minutes from Tokyo; the circuit’s entry fee is ¥500 at weekends, and the taxi meter starts at up to ¥500. Every time and fare here was checked on the official pages on 23 October 2026.
Fees, drift days and booking are in our Mobara Twin Circuit guide. This page answers one question: how you get from Tokyo to the gate and back with a rail pass and no rental car.
Where is Mobara Twin Circuit, and what does it say about trains?
The address is 640 Daita, Mobara, Chiba 297-0044, south of Mobara town. Unlike many Japanese circuits, it gives real public transport directions on its own access page. You take JR to Mobara Station on the Sotobo Line (外房線, the line down Chiba’s Pacific coast). From there it names two options:
| From Mobara Station | What the circuit says | What it does not say |
|---|---|---|
| Kominato Bus (小湊バス), South Exit stand 1, bound for Ichinono (市野々) | Get off at Daita-zeki (台田堰), walk 3 minutes | Times, fares, weekend service |
| A second service, South Exit stand 1, bound for Otaki and Chonan | Same stop, same 3-minute walk | Times, fares |
| Taxi | About 15 to 20 minutes | Fare, taxi company |
The circuit adds that a direct Sobu rapid or the limited express to Awa-Kamogawa gets you from Tokyo to Mobara in 45 minutes. The Saturday morning timetable we checked has no train that fast, so plan with the times below.
Which train from Tokyo gets you there in time?
Here are the two useful Saturday and holiday options, from JR East’s own timetables.
| Leg | Departs | Arrives | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sobu Line rapid, Tokyo → Chiba | 05:59 | 06:37 | TBC: not officially stated (checked 23 Oct 2026) |
| Sotobo Line local, Chiba → Mobara | 06:50 | 07:27 | TBC |
| Limited express Wakashio 1, Tokyo → Mobara (direct, Keiyo Line platforms) | 07:15 | 08:12 | TBC: fare plus a limited express charge |
| Taxi, Mobara Station → circuit | on arrival | +15 to 20 min | Meter: up to ¥500 for 1.06 km, then ¥100 per 221 m |
| Kominato Bus to Daita-zeki, then walk | TBC | TBC | TBC |
The taxi meter rates are the Chiba district upper fares for a standard car, in force since 16 March 2026. Mobara is in that district. JR fares for this trip sit inside JR East’s search tools rather than on a published table, so we leave them as TBC instead of guessing.
The direct train can miss check-in
On NikoNiko drift days the gate opens at 07:00, advance entrants check in from 07:30 to 08:20, and the briefing runs 08:30 to 08:50. Wakashio 1 reaches Mobara at 08:12. Add a 15 to 20 minute taxi and you arrive after check-in has closed. The 07:27 arrival is the one that works.
How do you cover the last few kilometres?
The bus looks like the answer, and on paper it is. The catch is that the circuit gives the route and the stop, but no times. To confirm a departure, the circuit points you to Kominato’s information line, 0475-23-2211, which is a Japanese phone call. Kominato’s website was returning an error page when we checked on 23 October 2026.
So in practice the last leg is a taxi. The circuit gives a ride time but no taxi company, only the JR Mobara Station information number (0475-22-2642). Getting there in the morning is easy: taxis wait at big stations. Getting back is the stuck step. When running ends, you need a car to come out to a circuit in the fields south of town, and you book it by phone, in Japanese.
If the ride back from the circuit is where your plan breaks
The JR leg to Mobara is simple. The bus you cannot confirm without a Japanese phone call, and the taxi you have to call out to the circuit at the end of the day, are the parts we take on. Send us your dates: Drift at Mobara with us, we handle the transport and the entry.
What does a day at Mobara cost without a car?
Two realistic ways to do it, from cheapest to simplest:
| Option | What you pay | What is fixed |
|---|---|---|
| DIY: train + taxi | JR fare (TBC) + taxi meter both ways + ¥500 entry on Sat and holidays | You book the taxi back yourself, in Japanese |
| DIY: train + bus | JR fare (TBC) + bus fare (TBC) + ¥500 entry | Only if you confirm bus times by phone first |
| Attended trip with us | Cost plus our fee, quoted as one total upfront | Transport to the gate and back, and the entry |
Remember what you are going to do there. Mobara rents no drift cars and has no drift free-run; drifting only happens on published days. Without a car of your own you go as a spectator, or as a passenger: a NikoNiko entrant can take you along for a ¥1,500 passenger fee, paid by that driver at check-in.
Can you get home the same evening?
Yes, easily. NikoNiko running ends from 16:00. On Saturdays and holidays, Wakashio 18 leaves Mobara at 17:43 and reaches Tokyo at 18:41. Through trains to Tokyo leave Mobara as late as 21:22 (a local running via the Keiyo Line). The train is never the bottleneck; the 15 to 20 minutes between the circuit and the station is.
On big days, check the times. D1 NEXT Series Round 5 runs at Mobara on Sunday 8 November 2026, in the reverse direction, with the gate open from 06:30.
