Used Z33 6-speed from Japan at a glance
A used, complete Nissan Z33 (350Z, sold in Japan as the Fairlady Z) six-speed gearbox sold for a median ¥90,000 (about $563) on Yahoo! Auctions, across 7 sales in the 120 days to 1 October 2026, with prices from ¥71,000 to ¥211,000. Those figures come from the TSUISO parts price index row re-read on 3 October 2026, and the adaptor and shipping details below were checked on the makers’ and Japan Post’s own pages on 11 October 2026. Getting one overseas means draining it, crating it and staying under the EMS limit of 30 kg (20 kg to Australia), or moving it as freight.
Dollar figures use ¥160 to $1. Sold prices come from the JDM drift parts price index (Yahoo! Auctions closed sales, complete gearboxes only).
What did the 7 Z33 gearboxes actually sell for?
Seven sales is a tight sample, so here is every one of them, read from the listing titles:
| Sold | Price | What the title says |
|---|---|---|
| 18 Apr 2026 | ¥71,000 ($444) | Fully working, unmodified; no delivery to private homes, hand-over near the seller |
| 26 Sep 2026 | ¥75,000 ($469) | Fairlady Z33 manual 6-speed |
| 2 Sep 2026 | ¥86,000 ($538) | Genuine Z33 6-speed, VQ35 |
| 22 Sep 2026 | ¥90,000 ($563) | Z33 manual 6-speed, “good” (良好) |
| 4 Jul 2026 | ¥139,800 ($874) | Late model (後期) 6MT, “CD5”, with propeller shaft ASSY |
| 29 Aug 2026 | ¥158,000 ($988) | Mid model (中期), with propeller shaft ASSY, operation checked |
| 30 May 2026 | ¥211,000 ($1,319) | With propeller shaft and ATS clutch ASSY |
The split is clear. The 4 bare gearboxes sold for ¥71,000 to ¥90,000. The 3 listings above ¥130,000 were assemblies (ASSY) that bundle the propeller shaft, and the top one adds an aftermarket ATS clutch. If you only need the gearbox, the bare units are the row to price against.
For the rest of the swap budget, the used engine price guide uses the same index, and the R154 buying guide covers the Toyota five-speed that the Z33 box is usually compared against.
Which codes are you buying, and what do the adaptor makers say?
The Z33 six-speed is listed by adaptor makers under its revision codes. We don’t confirm fitment ourselves. Here is what Collins Adapters states on its own product pages:
| Collins product | Price listed | Gearbox revisions named | What Collins says you must supply or do |
|---|---|---|---|
| SR20DET to 350Z adapter plate | $480 | 350Z CD001, CD005, CD006, CD008, CD009; 370Z JK40C | A 200SX release bearing sleeve, a longer Nissan pivot ball (30537-40P01), and mill the bellhousing face 14 mm |
| 1JZ/2JZ to CD009 swap kit (G35/350Z chassis) | $182 base; options priced separately | 350Z CD001, CD005, CD008, CD009 (with clutch fork); 370Z JK40C | A JZ automatic flexplate and its spacer |
Collins’ JZ instructions describe the 350Z CD001 to CD009 family as having an external slave cylinder and the 370Z JK40 units as having an internal concentric slave, with different bolt counts for each. We did not find a Nissan page that maps each CD code to a model year (checked 11 October 2026), and the gearbox weight is not stated by the maker. One sold title above reads “CD5” for a late-model unit. That is the seller’s text, so read the code stamped on the case itself.
How do the price tiers stack up?
| Tier | What it covers | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Auction hammer, bare gearbox | The part only, in the seller’s hands | ¥71,000 to ¥90,000 across 4 sales; ¥90,000 median across all 7 |
| Landed in your city | Collection, drain, crate, export paperwork and freight | Actual cost + fee; we quote the landed total first |
| New CD009-type from Collins | Nissan part 320B0-6GP0B, drained and crated | $2,900 without install, continental US only |
How does a Z33 gearbox get out of Japan?
The gearbox and diff shipping guide covers the rules in full. In short, a gearbox is not banned by name, but Japan Post caps EMS at 30 kg (20 kg to Australia, with a 1.05 m length limit to Australia and Germany), and motor oil is accepted in international mail only in a wooden crate or a box boarded top and bottom and banded. Even Collins drains the fluid and builds an internal wooden crate before it ships a new unit inside the US. A propeller shaft from an ASSY listing adds length, so measure it before you assume the postal route.
Where do overseas Z33 gearbox buys get stuck?
The stuck step is the seller who will not post it to you, and the shift you cannot feel from abroad. The cheapest unit in the sample, ¥71,000 on 18 April 2026, was listed 個人宅配送不可: no delivery to private homes, hand-over near the seller only. A proxy has no one to send to the door. Even when a seller ships, “fully working” and “good” are words. Second-to-third synchro grind, input shaft play and what the oil looks like coming out do not show in a photo.
We collect it and show you the gearbox first
We buy or collect the Z33 gearbox in Japan, including listings that will not ship to a home address, and send you a photo and video walkthrough before you decide: a shift through all six gears, shaft play, the casing and bellhousing, the stamped code, and the oil as it drains. Then we crate it and quote one landed total. Send us the Z33 listing and your city for the walkthrough and a landed total.
What should you check before you bid?
Read the title first
- プロペラシャフト (propeller shaft), クラッチ (clutch), ASSY: an assembly, not a bare gearbox
- 配送不可, 引き取り or 手渡し: the seller will not post it
- 前期, 中期, 後期: early, mid or late model; then check the stamped code
- 完動品 or 動作確認済み: working or checked by the seller, not bench tested
- ジャンク, 部品取り: junk or for parts

Frequently asked questions
How much is a used Z33 350Z 6-speed gearbox in Japan?
As of 11 October 2026, the TSUISO parts price index (re-read 3 October 2026) shows 7 complete Z33 six-speed gearboxes sold on Yahoo! Auctions in the 120 days to 1 October 2026, at a median of ¥90,000 (about $563 at ¥160 to $1) and a range of ¥71,000 to ¥211,000. The 4 bare gearboxes sold for ¥71,000 to ¥90,000; the 3 sold together with the propeller shaft went for ¥139,800 to ¥211,000. These are part-only prices, before collection, draining, crating and export freight.
Which Nissan gearbox codes fit an SR20 or 1JZ/2JZ to 350Z adapter?
As of 11 October 2026, Collins Adapters' own product pages list its SR20DET to 350Z adapter plate ($480) for the 350Z transmission revisions CD001, CD005, CD006, CD008 and CD009 and the 370Z JK40C, and its 1JZ/2JZ to 350Z G35-chassis kit for CD001, CD005, CD008 and CD009 (with clutch fork) and the 370Z JK40C. Collins states the SR20 plate also needs a 200SX release bearing sleeve, a longer Nissan pivot ball (30537-40P01) and the bellhousing face milled 14 mm. Read the code stamped on the actual case and match it to the maker's list.
Can a used Z33 gearbox be shipped from Japan by EMS?
Only if the crated unit is under the weight limit and the oil is out. As of 11 October 2026, Japan Post's EMS page lists 30 kg to the USA, UK, Canada and Germany and 20 kg to Australia, with a 1.05 m length limit to Australia and Germany. Japan Post accepts motor oil in international mail only in a wooden crate or a box boarded top and bottom and banded. Collins does not publish a weight for the CD009, so weigh the drained, crated unit before choosing EMS over freight.
Can I buy a new CD009 gearbox instead of a used one from Japan?
In the continental US, yes. As of 11 October 2026, Collins Adapters lists a brand-new Nissan six-speed with external slave cylinder (part 320B0-6GP0B) at $2,900 without installation or $3,600 with its adapter installed, drained and crated inside the Nissan box. Collins states it does not ship these gearboxes outside the continental US. A used Z33 six-speed in Japan sold for a median ¥90,000 (about $563) across 7 Yahoo! Auctions sales in the 120 days to 1 October 2026.
