Used JDM calipers at a glance
Used R33 and R34 Skyline GT-R Brembo front caliper pairs sold for ¥52,000 to ¥81,000 (about $325 to $506) on Yahoo! Auctions between July and September 2026. Z33 Fairlady Z Brembo sets, front 4-pot plus rear 2-pot, sold for ¥60,000 to ¥82,000. Sold prices and Japan Post’s shipping rules were checked on 18 October 2026.
The calipers themselves are easy to find. The hard part is knowing what is inside them, and whether the listing is a whole set. Dollar figures use ¥160 to $1.
What do used Brembo and Akebono calipers sell for in Japan?
These are sold prices from Yahoo! Auctions closed listings, roughly May to mid-October 2026. Auction sales only, used parts. Some listings included rotors or pads; we note it where the title said so.
| What sold | Sales | Sold price range |
|---|---|---|
| R33/R34 GT-R Brembo front pair (4-pot) | 5 | ¥52,000–81,000 ($325–506). The top sale came with rotors |
| R32/R33/R34 GT-R Brembo rear (2-pot) | 3 | ¥44,722 (one right rear) to ¥83,000. An R33 rear pair sold for ¥53,000 |
| Z33 Brembo set, 4-pot front + 2-pot rear | 10 | ¥60,000–82,000 ($375–513) |
| Z33 Brembo front pair only | 6 | ¥29,000–60,000 ($181–375). ¥60,000 was listed as overhauled and repainted |
| Nissan Akebono set, 4-pot + 2-pot (Z34, V36, Y51) | 16 | ¥31,500–100,000 ($197–625). 15 of 16 at ¥64,980 or less |
Rebuild parts are cheap by comparison. Aftermarket seal kits for GT-R Brembo calipers sold for ¥7,500 new from a store, and ¥15,000 to ¥18,500 at auction. At the other end, a new, unused genuine R33 GT-R Brembo front pair sold from a store for ¥247,500 on 15 September 2026.
Listing titles often name other chassis the seller says the caliper suits, for example S14 or S15 on a GT-R or Z33 listing. That is the seller’s claim, not ours. Fitment, brackets and rotor size are your call or your mechanic’s.
What does a caliper listing leave out?
Most listings show a clean caliper from two angles and a few words. Condition is given as a grade and a phrase like 実動外し (removed from a running car) or 傷汚れ等あり (some scratches and dirt). Neither tells you the inside.
Ask before you bid
- Do all pistons move, or are any seized (固着)?
- Are the dust boots (ダストブーツ) and seals intact, or cracked?
- Are the pad pins, clips and springs included?
- Are the bleed nipples and banjo threads clean and undamaged?
- Is it a left and right pair, or one side only (片側のみ)?
- Are brackets, rotors or hoses included, or only the calipers?
Half sets are common. In the sales we read, one listing was a single right-rear R34 caliper, and a store sold an R35 front caliper as the left side only. Sellers also say “O/H済” (overhauled) without saying who did the work. Decode the rest with our guide to reading Yahoo! Auctions parts listings.
How do calipers ship out of Japan?
By EMS, in most cases. Japan Post’s dangerous-goods search lists ブレーキ部品・ユニット (brake parts and units) as accepted for international mail with one condition. Parts that use high-pressure gas are refused. If there is none, the sender writes that on the label. Brake fluid (ブレーキオイル) is listed as accepted.
Weight decides the route before size does. Japan Post’s EMS table allows 30 kg to the US, Canada and New Zealand, but 20 kg to Australia. A four-caliper set with rotors adds up fast, so ask for the packed weight, not the caliper weight. The full comparison is in EMS vs courier vs sea.
Check your home rules first
A caliper swap can count as a modification at home. In New Zealand, for example, big-brake kits and caliper swaps trigger LVV certification. See our New Zealand import guide before you buy.
Which buying route fits you?
| Route | What you pay | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest DIY route: proxy bid on an auction | Sold price (for example ¥52,000–81,000 for a GT-R front pair) + proxy fees + domestic shipping + EMS | Whatever the photos showed. Seized pistons or missing pins show up when the box opens |
| Store listings (ストア) on Yahoo! Auctions | Z33 Brembo sets sold from stores for ¥60,500–88,000; Akebono sets mostly ¥33,000–68,200 | A business seller and sometimes a short warranty. Still photo-only |
| Packaged route: we buy, inspect and ship | Actual costs (part, domestic shipping, EMS) + our fee, quoted as one total first | Calipers checked in Japan before you commit to shipping |
Duty depends on your country. See the import duty guide. For paying a seller who only takes Japanese bank transfer, see paying a Japanese seller from overseas.
Where do caliper buys go wrong?
The stuck step is condition. A seized piston, a split dust boot or a stripped bleed thread does not show in two listing photos. When you ask, many sellers answer only in Japanese, and often only with “現状渡し” (sold as is). You find out at home, after paying for two legs of shipping.
We check the inside before you pay to ship
We receive the calipers at our Japanese address and inspect them here: pistons, dust boots, seals, bleed and banjo threads, pad pins and whether the set is complete. You get photos and a video walkthrough before anything is shipped, and one total of actual costs plus our fee. Send us the listing and we'll buy, inspect and ship your calipers.
Calipers are also sold in Japanese shops. If you are comparing a used store like UP GARAGE, read buying from UP GARAGE overseas. For the wider fee picture, see buying JDM drift parts from Japan. Planning to bed them in on track? The drift calendar lists the next open days.
