Used wiring harnesses in Japan
Yes, you can buy a used engine wiring harness for an SR20DET Silvia, 180SX or a 1JZ-GTE Chaser from Japan, and they sell every week. On Yahoo! Auctions Japan, 29 SR20DET turbo engine harnesses sold for ¥5,500 to ¥79,980 and 22 1JZ-GTE engine harnesses sold for ¥5,250 to ¥125,000 in closed listings ending 1 May to 21 October 2026. We read these listings and every sale page on 22 October 2026; dollar figures use ¥160 to $1, and prices exclude proxy fees, freight and import tax.
A wiring harness (ハーネス, hānesu) is the bundle of wires and connectors that links the engine, the ECU and the rest of the car. Japanese yafuoku (ヤフオク, the nickname for Yahoo! Auctions) sellers split it three ways: the engine harness (エンジンハーネス), the body or cabin harness (室内ハーネス or ボディハーネス), and the confusing メインハーネス (main harness), which some sellers use for the engine side and others for the cabin side.
What does a used Silvia or 180SX harness sell for?
We counted only listings that sold with at least one bid. The table covers standalone harnesses, not engines or ECUs sold with one.
| What sold | Sales | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| SR20DET turbo engine harness (S13, 180SX, S14, S15) | 29 | ¥5,500 to ¥79,980 |
| of which S15 Spec R | 4 | ¥31,500 to ¥79,980 |
| Other S-chassis engine harness (NA SR20DE, engine not stated, or sold as modified junk) | 19 | ¥4,600 to ¥25,000 |
| Body, cabin or main harness (S13, 180SX, S14, S15) | 17 | ¥3,300 to ¥55,000 |
The spread inside the SR20DET row comes from condition, not chassis. A 180SX black top harness with a broken fuse box cover and a cut wire sold for ¥5,500, while harnesses described as tested and unmodified (動作確認済, dōsa kakunin-zumi, “working when checked”) sat at the top. One S15 Spec R seller listed the engine room, cabin, both door and fuel tank harnesses as a set, and it sold for ¥55,555.
We left out complete engines with a harness attached, ignition coil, injector and knock sensor sub-harnesses, Audi R8 coil conversion kits, starter and alternator harnesses, door, tail lamp, meter and air-con harnesses, CA18DET harnesses, a two-car lot, and listings that named both CA18 and SR20. For what an engine with its harness costs, see our used SR20, 1JZ and 2JZ engine prices.
What about 1JZ and 2JZ harnesses?
| What sold | Sales | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| JZX100 1JZ-GTE engine harness | 15 | ¥20,500 to ¥125,000 |
| JZX90 1JZ-GTE engine harness | 5 | ¥5,250 to ¥60,000 |
| JZX110 1JZ-GTE engine harness | 2 | ¥18,600 and ¥41,000 |
| 1JZ-GE (non-turbo) engine harness | 3 | ¥5,000 to ¥10,000 |
| ECU sub-harness or extension (HKS F-CON, V-Pro, plug-in extensions) | 9 | ¥5,000 to ¥18,000 |
JZX100 harnesses cost more than anything on the Nissan side. The 5 described as coming from a manual car sold for ¥50,000 to ¥125,000, and one listed as unused genuine for the JZX90 sold for ¥42,500. Two JZX100 sellers said the loom was surplus because the car was being rewired, one of them for a standalone ECU (フルコン, furu-kon).
No standalone 2JZ-GTE engine harness sold in the searches we read. Every 2JZ listing with a harness was a complete engine or an ECU bundle. A search for スワップハーネス (swap harness) returned Lexus lighting kits and scooter looms, and no SR20 or JZ engine-swap harness sold under that name.
Engine, body or ECU harness: which one do you need?
The word メインハーネス is not a promise
Read the photos, not the title. Some sellers call the engine loom メインハーネス, others mean the cabin loom behind the dash. Several S13 and 180SX listings bundled the engine harness, cabin harness and fuse box under one title, and one JZX100 listing sold the fuse box with both the cabin and engine room sides.
For a straight replacement, you want the engine harness from the same engine, gearbox and year. Sellers flag the difference between SR20DET red top (赤ヘッド, aka-heddo) and black top (黒ヘッド, kuro-heddo) harnesses, and between 1JZ-GTE with and without VVT-i. We report what sellers state; fitment to your car is for the harness maker’s part number or your builder to decide. If you are going standalone ECU, many builders only need the plugs, and a cheap harness sold as junk (ジャンク, janku: sold as-is, untested) can still give you genuine connectors.
Why is buying a harness from overseas hard?
None of the 99 sale pages had Yahoo!‘s overseas delivery option switched on, and none mentioned overseas buyers at all. Three listings from one seller said people who cannot communicate in Japanese should not bid. 27 were sold ノークレーム・ノーリターン (no claims, no returns), 13 shipped freight-collect (着払い, chakubarai), and 9 offered local pickup as an option. None was pickup-only, and one title said delivery to a private address was fine.
Condition is the real gap. 16 descriptions mentioned cracked, broken or missing connectors, 19 mentioned modification (加工, kakō) such as spliced-in wires, and 6 mentioned cut or torn wires. Only 17 said the harness was working when removed, and 8 said nobody had tested it. A photo of a coiled loom cannot show a corroded pin, a hidden splice or a wire broken inside its insulation. Checking that by continuity test before you pay, and asking the seller follow-up questions in Japanese, is the step you cannot do from abroad.
We test the harness in Japan before you commit
Cracked plugs, hidden splices and sellers who only answer in Japanese are the gap we fill. We ask the seller your questions, receive the harness in Japan, and send you photo and video walkthroughs of every connector, the splices, any corrosion and a continuity check of the circuits you name before you decide, then pack it for export. Have us inspect, test and ship your wiring harness from Japan.
What should the photos and video show?
Wiring harness condition check
- Connector bodies and locking tabs: sellers write カプラー割れ (cracked plug) or 爪折れ (broken tab). Ask for close-ups of the ECU and engine-side plugs.
- Splices and taps: one S14 listing showed electro-taps (エレクトロタップ) added by a previous owner. Every added wire is a fault to trace later.
- Cut ends: a cleanly cut loom usually means a sensor or headlight section was left on the donor car. One 180SX seller said the headlight section was missing.
- Grommets and insulation: one JZX100 seller flagged a split firewall grommet. Look for bare copper where the loom rubbed.
- Pins: green or white corrosion inside a connector is the fault a photo hides.
What does each route cost?
| Route | What you pay | What you handle |
|---|---|---|
| DIY: proxy plus forwarder | The harness price, proxy fees, domestic freight (sometimes freight-collect), packing and international shipping, each billed separately | Finding a seller who ships to your proxy, judging plugs and splices from photos, and accepting no claims, no returns |
| Packaged: TSUISO Parts Desk | Actual cost plus a fee, quoted as a total first | Nothing on the Japan side: we question the seller, receive it, test it on video, pack and export |
A harness is light and folds up. Sellers quoted 140 and 180 size boxes (length, width and height added up in cm), and Japan Post’s EMS limits, checked on 22 October 2026, allow a 1.5 m maximum length and 30 kg to the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, and 1.05 m and 20 kg to Australia. When a seller only offers collection, the pickup-only parts guide covers your options, and if the harness comes with an engine, the used engine shipping guide covers the rest. Prices for other parts are in the monthly JDM drift parts price index.
Once the car is wired and running, the Japan drift tracks directory lists the circuits and what each one allows.

Toyota's GR Heritage Parts page lists eight models, including the A70 and A80 Supra and the AE86, but not the JZX90, JZX100 or JZX110. Ongoing new harness supply for the S13, S14, S15, 180SX and JZX cars is not officially stated.
Do Japanese sellers ship used wiring harnesses overseas?
Not directly, in the listings read on 22 October 2026. None of the 99 used SR20DET, 1JZ and Silvia harness sale pages on Yahoo!
