Used propeller shafts in Japan
Yes, you can buy a used propeller shaft for an S13 Silvia, 180SX, S14, S15 or JZX100 from Japan, and they sell every week. On Yahoo! Auctions Japan, 110 of them sold in closed listings ending 24 April to 18 October 2026, for ¥1,000 to ¥250,000, but the cheap end is standard 5-speed and automatic props, and anything for a 6-speed gearbox starts around ¥20,000. We checked these listings and read every sale page on 21 October 2026; dollar figures use ¥160 to $1, and prices exclude proxy fees, freight and import tax.
A propeller shaft (プロペラシャフト, often shortened to ペラシャ, “perasha”) is the tube that carries drive from the gearbox to the diff. Sellers call the front section 1軸 (ichijiku, first shaft) and the rear section 2軸 (nijiku). Most Silvia and Chaser props are two pieces joined by a centre bearing, which matters for both price and shipping.
What do Silvia and 180SX propeller shafts sell for?
We counted only listings that sold with at least one bid, and left out bolts, centre bearings, collars and gearbox-plus-prop bundles.
| What sold | Sales | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Standard genuine S13, 180SX, S14, S15 prop (5-speed or AT, one section or a set) | 46 | ¥1,000 to ¥35,001 |
| S15 Spec R 6-speed prop, or a prop sold for a 6-speed swap | 17 | ¥20,000 to ¥100,000 |
| Seller-modified prop (cut, welded or adapted) | 6 | ¥38,500 to ¥75,000 |
| Aftermarket: one-piece, D-MAX carbon, TTI sequential, S13 6-speed conversion | 4 | ¥48,000 to ¥100,000 |
The 6-speed premium is the story here. Drifters putting a factory S15 6-speed or a NISMO 6-speed into an S13 or S14 need a front section that matches it, and sellers say so in the title (ニスモ6速, nismo rokusoku; ニスロク, nisuroku). Four automatic S13 and 180SX props listed for a 6-speed conversion sold for ¥20,000 to ¥79,900, against ¥1,000 to ¥15,000 for automatic props listed without that note.
Watch the word 純正 (junsei, genuine). Five of the six modified props, all listed from Ehime with the same description, were titled as genuine S15 Spec R 6-speed shafts, but the description said the seller cut and welded them on a lathe to the factory length. They sold for ¥70,000 to ¥75,000. The aftermarket row is thin: one unused D-MAX carbon prop for a non-ABS S14 sold for ¥55,000 after 42 bids, and a prop for a TTI sequential gearbox sold for ¥74,800.
What about JZX100 and 1JZ propeller shafts?
| What sold | Sales | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Used JZX100 or JZX90 prop (section or set, MT or AT) | 18 | ¥2,166 to ¥76,000 |
| Complete used JZX100 manual set | 2 | ¥65,000 and ¥76,000 |
| Unused genuine Toyota JZX100 manual front section | 13 | ¥58,000 to ¥68,000 |
| Used JZX110 prop | 4 | ¥9,780 to ¥250,000 |
| Used JZZ30 Soarer 1JZ-GTE manual prop | 2 | ¥80,000 and ¥99,800 |
Manual Toyota props cost the most: the two JZX110 manual props sold for ¥179,000 and ¥250,000. The unused JZX100 front sections are listed as genuine Toyota parts (インタミディエイトシャフト, intermediate shaft), and seven of the 13 came from one seller at ¥58,500. Toyota does not state on any page we found whether it still supplies them, so treat ongoing supply as not officially stated. If you are building an R154 swap, our used R154 gearbox guide covers the box that this shaft bolts to.
Will a propeller shaft fit in an EMS parcel?
Usually, if it ships in sections. Sellers who measured gave these single-section lengths:
| Shaft | Front section | Rear section |
|---|---|---|
| S14 or S15 NA, 5-speed | about 420 mm between joints | about 650 mm |
| S13 SR20DE, 5-speed | about 52 cm | about 69.5 cm |
| JZX100, automatic | about 58.5 cm | about 85 cm |
Japan Post’s EMS limits, checked on 21 October 2026, are a 1.5 m maximum length to the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, and 1.05 m to Australia and Germany. EMS stops at 30 kg (20 kg to Australia), and so does International Parcel. One seller split a set into its two sections before packing, and quoted box sizes ran from 100 to 200 (the length, width and height added up in cm). A one-piece or carbon shaft cannot be split, and none of those listings stated a length, so its packed length is TBC until someone measures it. Anything over the limit goes by freight, as in the oversized JDM parts shipping guide.
Freight inside Japan is its own bill
14 of the 110 sellers shipped freight-collect (着払い, chakubarai), so the domestic cost is only known when the box arrives. 10 said a private address gets depot collection (営業所止め, eigyōsho-dome) if the shaft goes as large freight, and one JZX100 listing was titled 個人宅配送不可 (no delivery to private homes).
Where does buying from overseas get stuck?
None of the 110 sale pages had Yahoo!‘s overseas delivery option switched on. One seller wrote that overseas proxy bidders were welcome, so a proxy plus forwarder does work on some listings. The harder problem is condition. Every one of these props is sold ノークレーム・ノーリターン (no claims, no returns), and most descriptions say to judge from the photos. One S13 listing admitted the centre bearing area was deformed, another said runout (振れ, fure) had not been checked, and a photo cannot show either. A worn universal joint or a missing balance weight turns into a vibration you only find on the road, after the money is gone.
We check the shaft in Japan before you commit
Unknown runout, depot-only freight and sellers who will not ship abroad are the gap we fill. We receive the propeller shaft in Japan and send you photo and video walkthroughs of the universal joint play, the centre bearing rubber, any dents or welds on the tube and the balance weights before you decide, then pack it for export. Have us check, pack and ship your propeller shaft from Japan.
What should the photos and video show?
Propeller shaft condition check
- Universal joint play: sellers write ジャーナル部のガタ (journal play). Ask for the joint to be rocked by hand on video.
- Centre bearing: cracked rubber (ブッシュのひび割れ) or a bent bracket. One S13 6-speed prop sold without its bracket.
- Welds and shortening: a weld ring on the tube means it was cut. Shortening is common for swaps, so ask who did it.
- Dents and balance weights: a dented tube or a missing weight can mean vibration.
- The ends that must match: spline size (one S13 AT prop: 24 splines, 38 mm) and whether the rear flange suits an ABS or non-ABS diff.
What does each route cost?
| Route | What you pay | What you handle |
|---|---|---|
| DIY: proxy plus forwarder | The shaft price, proxy fees, domestic freight (sometimes freight-collect), packing and international shipping, each billed separately | Finding a seller who ships to your proxy, confirming the section lengths, and judging joints and runout from photos |
| Packaged: TSUISO Parts Desk | Actual cost plus a fee, quoted as a total first | Nothing on the Japan side: we receive it, check it on video, pack and export |
The DIY route is cheapest when the listing ships by ordinary courier to a business address and the sections are under your country’s EMS length. When a seller only offers collection or depot pickup, the pickup-only parts guide covers your options, and the gearbox and diff shipping guide covers the parts at either end of the shaft.
Once the drivetrain is back together, the Japan drift tracks directory lists the circuits and what each one allows.
