The Rundown

  • Our full census of Goo-net retail listings on 21 October 2026 found 32 JZA80 Supras for sale in Japan. 26 showed a price; 6 were listed as price on request and are left out.
  • The 26 priced Supras asked a median of ¥8,564,000 (about $53,500 at ¥160 to the dollar). The cheapest asked ¥5,900,000, the dearest ¥30,000,000, and the middle half sat between ¥7.08M and ¥11.71M.
  • The grades split almost evenly: 14 of the 26 priced cars are the naturally aspirated SZ or SZ-R, 11 are the twin-turbo RZ, RZ-S or GZ, and 1 listing gave no grade.
  • Toyota built the JZA80 from May 1993 to August 2002, so the youngest Japanese-market Supra reaches the US 25-year mark in August 2027. 25 of the 26 priced cars carry a listed year of 2001 or earlier.
  • Canada's 15-year rule, read on Transport Canada's page on 31 October 2026, has covered every JZA80 since August 2017.

A Toyota Supra JZA80 costs a median of ¥8,564,000 (about $53,500) at Japanese dealer retail. That is the middle of 26 priced Supras in our full census of Goo-net retail listings on 21 October 2026, which ran from ¥5,900,000 to ¥30,000,000. It is the asking price in Japan before shipping and import costs, and it is the ceiling of the market, not the floor. The import rules below were checked on the official US and Canadian pages on 31 October 2026.

If you have been watching Supra adverts, you already know the problem. There are not many of them, the most interesting ones say “price on request”, and the price tag covers everything from a stock non-turbo coupe to a widebody 2JZ build. This guide sorts that out and shows how a buyer abroad actually gets one.

How much is a JZA80 Supra in Japan right now?

We counted every listing on Goo-net’s JZA80 type-code page. 32 Supras were for sale. 26 showed a body price. The other 6 were price on request, so they are not in the numbers.

Point in the marketAsking price (body only)Roughly in US dollars
Cheapest priced car¥5,900,000$36,900
Lower quarter¥7,076,000$44,200
Median¥8,564,000$53,500
Upper quarter¥11,712,000$73,200
Dearest priced car¥30,000,000$187,500

Dollar figures use ¥160 to the dollar. The listed years run from 1993 to 2002. The spread is wide because the two ends are very different cars. The cheapest, at ¥5.9M, is a 1993 SZ sold as a VeilSide 4509GTR complete car on 20-inch front and 22-inch rear wheels. The dearest, at ¥30M, is a 2002 final-model RZ-S with 12,050 km, a Getrag six-speed and dealer service records.

On 5 October 2026 our separate count found 25 priced JZA80s at a ¥8,880,000 median, so retail has held in the same band through the month. The month-by-month figures, next to the GT-R, RX-7 and the rest, are on our iconic JDM car prices page, and the drift-chassis side of the same census is in JP Market Check #4.

The rarest Supras have no price

Of the 6 price-on-request listings, 4 were twin-turbo RZ or RZ-S cars. They include a TRD 3000GT with serial number 002 and GT500-style over-fenders, and an RZ-S with a VARIS Supreme widebody kit. If you want something special, retail will not even show you the number.

Which JZA80 grade should you look for?

The Japanese-market JZA80 came in naturally aspirated and twin-turbo grades, both on the 3.0-litre 2JZ straight-six. Here is how the census splits by the grade in the listing title.

SZ and SZ-R (non-turbo)

  • 2JZ-GE, naturally aspirated
  • SZ: five-speed W58 manual
  • SZ-R: Bilstein dampers, LSD, spoiler; Getrag six-speed from 1997
  • 14 of 26 priced cars

RZ, RZ-S and GZ (twin-turbo)

  • 2JZ-GTE, sequential twin-turbo
  • RZ: six-speed manual
  • RZ-S: automatic available; GZ dropped in 1996
  • 11 of 26 priced cars
Grade in the listing titlePriced carsPrice on request
SZ72
SZ-R70
RZ53
RZ-S51
GZ10
No grade given10

The grade tells you what Toyota built, not what is in the car today. One price-on-request SZ says it has a turbo engine and a Getrag six-speed fitted and officially registered, and the priced GZ runs a Trust single-turbo kit. Ask what engine and gearbox the car has now.

What should you check on a 2JZ Supra before you buy?

The adverts themselves show where the variation is. Out of the 26 priced listing titles:

  • Gearbox. 9 mention a manual (5 a six-speed, 3 a five-speed), 1 mentions an automatic, and the rest do not say. For a drift car or a future build, that question comes first.
  • Turbo setup. 3 name an aftermarket turbo: a T88-34D on a built “2JZ改” (modified 2JZ) widebody RZ, a Garrett unit, and the Trust single-turbo kit. A stock sequential twin-turbo car and a big single are different machines to own.
  • Timing belt and history. The 2JZ runs a timing belt, and 4 titles mention it has been replaced. 6 say one owner, 2 mention service records, and 2 say “修復歴無し”, no recorded accident repair.
  • Original or modified. Only 2 titles call the car “フルオリジナル”, fully original. Most carry coilovers, aftermarket exhausts and wheels. That suits a drift build, but it also hides wear.

You cannot judge any of this from listing photos, and you do not have to fly to Japan to do it. We inspect the car locally and send you a video and photo walk-through: the underside, the frame rails, the engine bay and a cold start. You decide after you have seen it. If the car is at auction, our guide to reading a Japanese auction sheet explains the grades and repair marks on the sheet.

If you are pricing a spare or swap engine instead, our used JDM engine price index found a median of ¥911,550 across only 4 complete 2JZ-GTE sales on Yahoo! Auctions Japan in the 120 days to 1 October 2026.

Can you import a JZA80 Supra to the US or Canada?

CountryRule (official page, read 31 Oct 2026)What it means for a JZA80
United StatesVehicles under 25 years old must meet all US safety standardsBuilt up to October 2001: eligible now. Last cars (August 2002) clear in August 2027
CanadaVehicles over 15 years old are not regulated at import under the Motor Vehicle Safety ActEvery JZA80 passed 15 years by August 2017

United States. CBP’s importing page says that as a general rule, motor vehicles less than 25 years old must comply with all US safety standards. Toyota built the JZA80 from May 1993 to August 2002. Toyota did sell the Supra new in the US until 1998, but a Japanese-market car is a different specification and comes in under the 25-year exemption. In our census, 25 of the 26 priced cars carry a listed year of 2001 or earlier. A late-2001 car may still be a few weeks short, so the build date on that specific car is what counts. The EPA side is separate: EPA’s page says its provision for vehicles over 21 years old expects an engine identical to the original. A non-turbo SZ that now runs a 2JZ-GTE needs a closer look before it ships. The month-by-month counting is in our 25-year rule guide, and the paperwork at the US end is in importing a drift car to the USA.

Canada. Transport Canada says vehicles older than 15 years are not regulated at import under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, with age set by the month and year of manufacture. That covers every JZA80.

For Australia and the UK, see importing a drift car to Australia, the UK and Canada. Whether a Japanese Supra still beats buying one at home is worked through in is importing a JDM car from Japan still worth it?

How do you buy a JZA80 from Japan if you live abroad?

The whole route, from deposit to your port, is in our step-by-step import process guide. For a Supra it looks like this:

1
Pick the specTwin-turbo or non-turbo, manual or auto, stock or already built.
2
Find the carRetail listings, the trade auction halls, or a private sale in the drift community.
3
Inspect it in JapanUnderside, frame, engine bay and a cold start, on video, before money moves.
4
Export deregistrationThe Japanese registry paperwork, done in Japan.
5
Ship and clearRo-Ro or container, then HS-7 and EPA 3520-1 in the US, or Transport Canada's process.

Retail is only one door. A dealer car has been bought at auction or traded in, prepared, given a warranty you cannot use from abroad, and marked up. Most Supras in Japan change hands below that, at the trade auctions and in private sales, and there the price is the cost of the car itself.

Two steps are where foreign buyers get stuck. Export deregistration usually wants the owner’s registered seal and seal certificate, which only Japanese residents can get; our export deregistration guide explains why. And step 2 has a locked door: the trade auction halls do not admit private overseas buyers, because membership needs a Japanese business and guarantors. You cannot bid there from abroad.

That is the step we take for you

We have the auction access and we know the drift-community sellers. Have us find a JZA80 Supra at the Japanese trade auctions and send you the walk-through video before you commit. Tell us the grade, gearbox and condition you want; we send you candidates with underside and cold-start footage, and one total quote, costs plus our fee, before anything is bought.

Do JZA80 Supras still drift in Japan?

Rarely, at the top level. When we counted every car in the 2026 D1 rankings on 21 September 2026, there was exactly one JZA80 Supra among 79 cars in D1 Grand Prix and D1 Lights. Yoshichika Tamagawa stepped up to D1 Grand Prix in a JZA80 for RD.ZERO at Fuji Speedway on 19 April 2026 and finished ninth. The engine shows up more than the car: Masashi Yokoi’s 2026 D1 Grand Prix title charge is in an S14 with a 3.4-litre 2JZ-GTE, covered in his driver profile. D1 dates and the grassroots days we track are on our drift calendar.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Toyota Supra JZA80 cost in Japan in 2026?

At Japanese dealer retail, a JZA80 Supra asked a median of ¥8,564,000 (about $53,500 at ¥160 to the dollar) in TSUISO's full census of Goo-net listings on 21 October 2026. That count covered 26 priced cars, from ¥5,900,000 to ¥30,000,000, with the middle half between ¥7.08M and ¥11.71M. Another 6 Supras were listed as price on request. These are asking prices in Japan before export costs; cars bought through Japanese trade auctions or private sales come in below retail, at a cost that depends on the individual car.

Can I import a JZA80 Supra from Japan to the United States?

Almost all of them, yes. US Customs and Border Protection states that, as a general rule, vehicles less than 25 years old must comply with all US safety standards, so a Japanese-market JZA80 Supra becomes eligible under the 25-year exemption once it is 25 years old. Toyota built the JZA80 from May 1993 to August 2002, so as of 31 October 2026 cars built up to October 2001 qualify and the last ones qualify in August 2027. Check the build date on the specific car, not just the year in the advert. EPA separately expects an engine identical to the original under its over-21-year provision, which matters for a non-turbo car converted to a turbo engine.

Can I import a JZA80 Supra to Canada?

Yes. Transport Canada's page, read on 31 October 2026, says vehicles older than 15 years are not regulated at import by the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, with age set mainly by the month and year of manufacture. The newest JZA80 Supra was built in August 2002, so every one passed the 15-year mark by August 2017. Provincial registration and inspection rules still apply after the car lands.

What is the difference between the Supra SZ, SZ-R, RZ and RZ-S?

They are the Japanese-market grades of the JZA80 Supra. The SZ and SZ-R use the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE straight-six; the SZ-R added Bilstein dampers, a limited-slip differential and a rear spoiler, and from 1997 a Getrag six-speed. The RZ and RZ-S use the twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE; the RZ is the six-speed manual car, and the RZ-S could be ordered with an automatic. The early GZ was a higher-spec turbo grade dropped in 1996. In TSUISO's Goo-net census on 21 October 2026, 14 of 26 priced Supras were SZ or SZ-R and 11 were RZ, RZ-S or GZ.
