A new ORIGIN Labo. Type 2 bonnet for the S13, S14, S15, 180SX or JZX100 costs ¥82,300 (about $514) in FRP or ¥98,800 (about $618) in carbon, ex Japanese tax, and the maker’s shop ships it only inside Japan. Getting it to you means a long box that EMS may refuse, so the freight route matters as much as the part price. Every price and limit here was checked on the official pages on 7 October 2026.

A bonnet (hood) is the aero part that looks easy and ships hard. It is light, but it is big, flat and fragile at the edges. Prices are the maker’s list with the 10% consumption tax taken off, because export sales are tax-free, the same way as in our ORIGIN Labo. price list. Dollars use ¥160 to $1.

What does a new ORIGIN Labo. bonnet cost?

ORIGIN Labo. sells three bonnet styles. FRP comes in white gel-coat, ready for paint. Carbon comes in black weave. The price depends on the style, not the car.

BonnetFitsFRP, ex-taxCarbon, ex-taxMaker list incl. tax (FRP / carbon)

Type 3 (carbon only)180SX, S15, 86/BRZn/a¥114,200 ($714)n/a / ¥125,620

Every bonnet has a CB code. The S15 Type 2 is CB-14, the S13 Type 1 is CB-01, and the carbon Type 3 bonnets are CBV codes. The maker’s own page for the S15 Type 2 says the underside has a frame for strength and the factory bonnet catch still works. You can see each one with its code on our catalogue, for example the S15 Type 2 bonnet page.

Plan for the wait

Bonnets are moulded in batches. On 7 October 2026 the S15 Type 2 showed 入荷待ち (awaiting stock) in both FRP and carbon, and every Type 1 is marked 受注生産 (made to order). Ask for the lead time before you budget the date.

What does a used bonnet cost in Japan?

There is no single fair price. Used bonnets on Yahoo! Auctions and Mercari range from genuine branded carbon to tired FRP copies, and the condition swings the value more than the brand does. So we do not quote a median here. Use the method instead.

1
Search in JapaneseTry ボンネット FRP S15 or カーボンボンネット S14. English titles miss most listings.
2
Read the photos, not the titleLook for cracks at the front corners, around the vents and at the hinge mounts.
3
Ask two questions割れはありますか (any cracks?) and 補修歴はありますか (any repair history?).
4
Ask for the box sizeThe packed dimensions decide your freight route and cost.

Compare what you find with the new price in the table. A used carbon bonnet close to ¥98,800 has to be clearly better than a new FRP one at ¥82,300 plus paint. Words like ジャンク and 現状渡し are decoded in what ジャンク means on Yahoo! Auctions. If the listing says “Origin style”, read genuine ORIGIN Labo. vs replica kits first.

What goes wrong with an FRP or carbon bonnet?

Check before you pay

  • Edge and corner cracks. FRP chips at the front corners and the rear edge. Fresh paint can hide a repair.
  • Clear coat on carbon. Sun-faded or peeling clear coat means a refinish before it looks right.
  • Hinge mounts. A cracked mount means the bonnet sits crooked or will not bolt on.
  • Latch area. If the catch area is cracked or cut, the bonnet may not stay shut. Plan bonnet pins.
  • Chassis and facelift. S14 zenki and kouki bonnets are different parts. Match the code or the model year.

Some tracks have their own bonnet rules: Nikko and Tsukuruma ban running with the bonnet off, as listed in our noise limits and tech rules guide. For road use at home, check your local rules.

How does a bonnet ship from Japan?

Start inside Japan. The maker’s shop bills every bonnet as a 220-size oversized item and sends it by Seino Transportation to a business address or a Seino depot. To Kanto that is ¥5,940, against ¥20,240 to a private home, which the shop marks as not recommended. It does not ship abroad.

Then the export leg. These are the limits that decide the route:

RouteSize limitNote
EMSLongest side 1.5 m, length + girth 3 m (2.75 m to the US)Only 1.05 m to Australia and Germany
DHL Express piece120 × 80 × 80 cm, 70 kgBilled on L × W × H ÷ 5,000 if higher than real weight
DHL Express palletUp to 300 × 200 × 160 cm, 1,000 kgFor crated parts over the piece limit
Sea freightCrate or palletSlowest; priced per shipment, not per kilo

DHL also adds JPY3,300 per piece once the longest side passes 100 cm. A bonnet is mostly air, so the volumetric weight usually beats the scale weight. Run the box size through the formula before you compare quotes. The full maths is in shipping oversized JDM parts, and the route choice is in EMS vs courier vs sea. Duty depends on your country: see the import duty guide.

If you are also buying a bumper or fenders, they can go in the same crate as the bonnet. Our used front bumper guide covers that part.

Where do overseas buyers get stuck?

At the condition check. A bonnet’s real problems sit at the edges, the hinge mounts and the latch area, and seller photos rarely show them. You cannot see the part before you pay, and a crack found after a sea crossing is very expensive to fix.

We take the condition check

We find the bonnet (new ORIGIN Labo. or used), check it in Japan and send you photos and a walk-through video of the edges, the underside frame, the hinge mounts and the latch area before you decide. Then we crate it and give you one delivered total. Have us source, check and crate your bonnet from Japan.

For live used-part prices on other big items, the parts price index is updated every month, and every new ORIGIN Labo. part is on the catalogue by chassis.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an ORIGIN Labo. carbon bonnet in 2026?

As of 7 October 2026, a new ORIGIN Labo. Type 2 carbon bonnet for the Silvia S13, S14 or S15, the 180SX, the JZX100 Chaser or Mark II, the Z33 or the 86/BRZ is ¥108,680 including Japanese tax in the maker's official shop, or ¥98,800 (about $618) with the 10% tax removed for export. The FRP version is ¥82,300 ex-tax. The made-to-order Type 1 carbon bonnet is ¥91,100 and the carbon-only Type 3 for the 180SX, S15 and 86/BRZ is ¥114,200 ex-tax. Freight is extra.

Can a bonnet be sent from Japan by EMS?

Only if the packed box fits Japan Post's limits for your country. As of 7 October 2026, EMS takes a longest side of up to 1.5 m and up to 3 m of length plus girth to the UK, Canada and New Zealand (2.75 m to the US), but only 1.05 m to Australia and Germany. A full car bonnet in a protective box is usually a long, wide parcel, so ask the seller for the packed dimensions first. Over the limit, it goes by courier, on a pallet or by sea freight.

Will the ORIGIN Labo. shop ship a bonnet overseas?

No. As of 7 October 2026, ORIGIN Labo.'s official shop (エアロのエース in Osaka) bills its bonnets as 220-size oversized items and ships them by Seino Transportation to a Japanese business address or a Seino depot. Home delivery inside Japan costs extra and is marked not recommended, and the shop has no overseas shipping option. Overseas buyers go through an exporter in Japan, a local ORIGIN Labo. distributor, or a parts service such as TSUISO's.

What should I check on a used FRP or carbon bonnet from Japan?

Ask about cracks (割れ), repair history (補修歴) and the clear coat, and get photos of the underside frame, the hinge mounts and the latch area, as of 7 October 2026. FRP cracks can hide under fresh paint, and a cracked hinge or latch mount means the bonnet may not close or stay shut. On a genuine ORIGIN Labo. bonnet, ask for the part code: bonnets use CB numbers, such as CB-14 for the S15 Type 2. A seller who cannot give the code may be selling a copy.
