Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 for Sale in Japan: Prices & How to Buy (2026)

The Rundown

  • Our full census of Goo-net retail listings on 21 October 2026 read 1,256 Skyline adverts and found 56 R32 Skyline GT-Rs (BNR32) for sale in Japan. 41 showed a price; 15 were listed as price on request and are left out.
  • The 41 priced R32 GT-Rs asked a median of ¥9,500,000 (about $59,400 at ¥160 to the dollar). The cheapest asked ¥5,599,000, the dearest ¥19,000,000, and the middle half sat between ¥7.83M and ¥12.14M.
  • The listed year moves the price more than anything else in the census: 13 priced 1991 cars had a median of ¥7,780,000, while 13 priced 1994 cars had a median of ¥12,280,000. All 4 priced listings that call the car original or unmodified are 1994 cars at ¥10M or more.
  • Nissan built the R32 GT-R from August 1989 to November 1994, so every one passed the US 25-year mark by November 2019 and Canada's 15-year mark by November 2009 (rules read on the official pages on 1 November 2026).
  • Every R32 GT-R left the factory with the 2.6-litre twin-turbo RB26DETT, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual, so there is no automatic to avoid and no rear-drive version of the GT-R.

A Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 (BNR32) costs a median of ¥9,500,000 (about $59,400) at Japanese dealer retail, as of 21 October 2026. That is the middle of 41 priced R32 GT-Rs in our full census of Goo-net retail listings that day, which ran from ¥5,599,000 to ¥19,000,000. It is the asking price in Japan before shipping and import costs, and it is the ceiling of the market, not the floor: buyers abroad usually reach Japanese trade auctions and private sales through a Japan-based agent. The US and Canadian import rules below were checked on the official pages on 1 November 2026.

If you have been watching R32 adverts, you know how hard they are to compare. The same “Skyline GT-R” title covers a tired 1991 car, a freshly restored stroker and a one-owner 1994 car that has never been modified. This guide sorts the census by what actually moves the price and shows how a buyer abroad gets one.

How much is an R32 Skyline GT-R in Japan right now?

Goo-net does not give the R32 GT-R its own type-code page, so we read every Skyline listing on the site on 21 October 2026, 1,256 adverts across 26 pages, and kept the cars titled GT-R with a listed year of 1989 to 1994. That left 56 R32 GT-Rs. 41 showed a body price. The other 15 were price on request, so they are not in the numbers.

Asking price (body only)CarsRoughly in US dollars
Under ¥7,000,0001the ¥5,599,000 car, about $35,000
¥7,000,000 to ¥7,999,99911$43,750 to $50,000
¥8,000,000 to ¥8,999,9998$50,000 to $56,250
¥9,000,000 to ¥9,999,9992$56,250 to $62,500
¥10,000,000 to ¥11,999,9998$62,500 to $75,000
¥12,000,000 to ¥14,999,9995$75,000 to $93,750
¥15,000,000 and over6$93,750 to $118,750

Dollar figures use ¥160 to the dollar. The middle half of the market runs from ¥7,830,000 to ¥12,140,000. The table has two humps rather than one: 19 cars sit between ¥7M and ¥9M, only 2 sit in the ¥9M band, and 19 more sit at ¥10M and above. The cheapest, at ¥5,599,000, is a 1991 car with no details at all in the title. The dearest, at ¥19,000,000, is a later 1994 car listed as one owner, accident-free, unmodified and on its original mileage.

The listed year explains most of that split.

Listed yearPriced carsAsking pricesMedian

199413¥7,000,000 to ¥19,000,000¥12,280,000

Five of the six cars at ¥15M and over are 1994 cars. The price-on-request listings lean the same way: 6 of the 15 are 1994 cars. The month-by-month figures for the R32, next to the R34, the Supra, the RX-7 and the rest, are on our iconic JDM car prices page, and the drift-chassis side of the same October census is in JP Market Check #4.

What sits below the retail price?

Retail is a dealer’s price: a car bought at auction or traded in, reconditioned, given a warranty you cannot use from abroad, and marked up. Plenty of R32 GT-Rs in Japan change hands somewhere underneath that.

Where the car comes fromWhat you payWhat you get
Retail on Goo-net¥5,599,000 to ¥19,000,000, median ¥9,500,000 (census of 21 Oct 2026)Dealer prep and a public asking price, plus 15 cars with no price at all
Japanese trade auction or private saleBelow retail: the actual cost of the car plus our fee, with the total quoted up front before anything is boughtNo showroom prep. An auction sheet grade, or the car as its owner kept it

We do not put a figure on “below retail”, because it depends on the car in front of us that week. One honest point before you start: when we compared Japanese dealer prices plus landed cost with a year of US auction results, the R32 GT-R came out cheaper to buy at home in the US. That comparison is in is importing a JDM car from Japan still worth it?, and it is the reason to buy an R32 in Japan for a specific car or condition, not for a discount on the median.

Which R32 GT-R should you look for: standard, V-spec or V-spec II?

Every R32 GT-R uses the same 2,568 cc twin-turbo RB26DETT straight-six, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual. The differences are in the packages Nissan added late in the run.

Standard GT-R (1989 to 1994)

  • RB26DETT, 280 PS from the factory
  • 16-inch wheels
  • Most of the 43,937 R32 GT-Rs built
  • 36 of 41 priced cars have no V-spec in the title

V-spec and V-spec II (1993 and 1994)

  • V-spec from 3 February 1993: Brembo brakes, retuned ATTESA E-TS, 17-inch BBS wheels
  • V-spec II from 14 February 1994: wider 245/45R17 tyres
  • 1,396 V-spec and 1,306 V-spec II built
  • 5 of 41 priced cars in the census

In the 21 October 2026 listings, 3 priced cars were titled V-spec (¥9,500,000, ¥15,500,000 and ¥17,000,000) and 2 were titled V-spec II (¥12,280,000 and ¥14,800,000). Two more V-spec cars, one of each, were price on request. Five cars is too few for a median, but four of the five ask well above the market’s ¥9.5M middle.

Nissan also built a homologation GT-R Nismo in 1990, 560 cars in Gun Grey Metallic. 8 of the 41 priced listing titles mention Nismo, but every one of them is naming Nismo parts (seat covers, floor mats, a reinforced timing belt, wheels, gauges), not the Nismo model. Read the model code on the car, not the word in the title.

What should you check on an R32 GT-R before you buy?

These cars are roughly 32 to 37 years old, and the listing titles show where they differ. Out of the 41 priced titles:

  • Original or modified. Only 4 titles call the car original, unmodified or “フルノーマル” (fully stock). All 4 are 1994 cars, and they ask ¥10,000,000, ¥14,800,000, ¥17,000,000 and ¥19,000,000. Most of the rest carry coilovers, aftermarket exhausts and wheels.
  • Turbos and engine. 7 titles name a turbo change, from HKS units to a GT-III 5R, a TD06 pair and R34 GT-R turbos. 2 mention a bigger engine (an RB28 and a bored-out engine), and 2 a swap to an HKS six-speed gearbox. A stock car and a built one are different machines to own, and to import.
  • Maintenance and history. 4 titles mention a timing-belt replacement, one with the mileage it was done at. 3 say one owner, and 3 say no accident or repair history. Ask for the paperwork behind each claim.

You cannot judge any of this from listing photos, and you do not have to fly to Japan to do it. We inspect the car locally and send you a video and photo walk-through: the underside, the frame rails and floors, the engine bay and a cold start. You decide after you have seen it. If the car is at auction, our guide to reading a Japanese auction sheet explains the grades and repair marks on the sheet. If you are pricing a spare RB26DETT instead of a car, our used JDM engine price index counts complete RB26DETT sales on Yahoo! Auctions Japan.

Can you import an R32 GT-R to the US or Canada?

CountryRule (official page, read 1 Nov 2026)What it means for an R32 GT-R
United StatesVehicles under 25 years old must meet all US safety standardsBuilt August 1989 to November 1994, so every one is now past 25 years. The last cars cleared in November 2019
CanadaVehicles over 15 years old are not regulated at import under the Motor Vehicle Safety ActEvery R32 GT-R passed 15 years by November 2009

United States. CBP’s importing page says that as a general rule, motor vehicles less than 25 years old must comply with all US safety standards, and that the importer files DOT form HS-7 and EPA form 3520-1 at entry. Nissan built the R32 GT-R from August 1989 to November 1994, so the arithmetic is simple: every BNR32 is more than 25 years old, and all 41 priced cars in our census qualify on age. The EPA side is separate. EPA’s page says its provision for vehicles over 21 years old expects an engine identical to the original, meaning the same model and configuration, and it encourages importers to contact its Imports Hotline before shipping. An RB28 or a bored-out engine needs that conversation before it leaves Japan. The month-by-month counting is in our 25-year rule guide, and the paperwork at the US end is in importing a drift car to the USA.

Canada. Transport Canada says vehicles older than 15 years are not regulated at import under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, with age set by the month and year of manufacture. That covers every R32 GT-R. The same page warns that some provinces will not license right-hand-drive vehicles, and every Japanese-market R32 is right-hand drive, so check with your province first.

How do you buy an R32 GT-R from Japan if you live abroad?

The whole route, from deposit to your port, is in our step-by-step import process guide. For an R32 GT-R it looks like this:

1
Pick the specEarly or late car, standard or V-spec, original or already built.
2
Find the carRetail listings, the trade auction halls, or a private sale.
3
Inspect it in JapanUnderside, frame, engine bay and a cold start, on video, before money moves.
4
Export deregistrationThe Japanese registry paperwork, done in Japan.
5
Ship and clearRo-Ro or container, then HS-7 and EPA 3520-1 in the US, or Transport Canada's process.

Two of those steps are where foreign buyers get stuck. Export deregistration usually wants the owner’s registered seal and seal certificate, which only Japanese residents can get; our export deregistration guide explains why. And step 2 has a locked door: the trade auction halls, where many R32 GT-Rs change hands below retail, do not admit private overseas buyers, because membership needs a Japanese business and guarantors. You cannot bid there from abroad.

That is the step we take for you

We have the auction access and we know the private sellers. Have us find an R32 Skyline GT-R at the Japanese trade auctions and send you the walk-through video before you commit. Tell us the year, spec and condition you want; we send you candidates with underside and cold-start footage, and one total quote, actual cost plus our fee, before anything is bought.

Is the R32 GT-R a drift car?

Not usually. The GT-R’s ATTESA E-TS system is an electronically controlled all-wheel drive that sends power to the front wheels as well as the rear, and every R32 GT-R was built that way. It was designed to win Group A touring car races, not to slide. If a drift car is what you are after, a rear-drive chassis is the usual starting point; our S13 Silvia and 180SX buyer’s guides cover those, and the Supra JZA80 and RX-7 FD3S guides cover the other rear-drive icons from the same census. If you want to see what Japanese drift days look like before you choose, the dates we track are on our drift calendar.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 cost in Japan in 2026?

At Japanese dealer retail, an R32 Skyline GT-R (BNR32) asked a median of ¥9,500,000 (about $59,400 at ¥160 to the dollar) in TSUISO's full census of Goo-net listings on 21 October 2026. That count covered 41 priced cars, from ¥5,599,000 to ¥19,000,000, with the middle half between ¥7.83M and ¥12.14M. Another 15 R32 GT-Rs were listed as price on request. These are asking prices in Japan before export costs; cars bought through Japanese trade auctions or private sales come in below retail, at a cost that depends on the individual car.

Can I import an R32 Skyline GT-R from Japan to the United States?

Yes, any of them. US Customs and Border Protection states that, as a general rule, motor vehicles less than 25 years old must comply with all US safety standards, so a Japanese-market car is eligible under the 25-year exemption once it is 25 years old. Nissan built the R32 GT-R from August 1989 to November 1994, so as of 1 November 2026 every R32 GT-R is more than 25 years old; the last ones passed the line in November 2019. EPA separately expects an engine identical to the original under its over-21-year provision, which matters for a car with a bigger-capacity RB engine.

Can I import an R32 Skyline GT-R to Canada?

Yes. Transport Canada's page, read on 1 November 2026, says vehicles older than 15 years are not regulated at import by the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, with age set mainly by the month and year of manufacture. The newest R32 GT-R was built in November 1994, so every one passed the 15-year mark by November 2009. The same page warns that some provinces will not license right-hand-drive vehicles, so check provincial registration before you buy.

What is the difference between the R32 GT-R, V-spec and V-spec II?

The standard R32 Skyline GT-R was built from August 1989. Nissan added the V-spec package on 3 February 1993, with Brembo brakes, a retuned ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system and 17-inch BBS wheels, and the V-spec II on 14 February 1994, whose only change was wider 245/45R17 tyres. Nissan built 1,396 V-spec and 1,306 V-spec II cars out of 43,937 R32 GT-Rs. In TSUISO's Goo-net census on 21 October 2026, 5 of 41 priced R32 GT-Rs were titled V-spec or V-spec II, asking ¥9,500,000 to ¥17,000,000.
